Hours: 21 hours per week

Contract: 12months fixed-term (with extension expected depending on funding)

Location: Remote working, with office space in Hackney, London available – occasional meetings there and travel around London required

Salary: £29,000 –  £34,000 gross per annum (Pro rata to part time)

We are seeking a Fundraising Manager to join our small team to implement our Fundraising Strategy specifically for ‘unrestricted income’. We are seeking an individual who can support us in growing our unrestricted income streams that will enable Kanlungan to continue to meet the needs of our communities.

This is a new and exciting role, and we are keen to hear from a breadth of candidates as this may be the right opportunity for an individual with lots of experience or someone with some experience but keen to develop their skills further and we are prepared to support and fund additional learning for the someone with the right passion, values and behaviours.

Introduction to Kanlungan

Kanlungan (a Filipino word for ‘refuge’, ‘sanctuary’ or ‘safe haven’) is a small charity that aims to empower migrants from Filipino, East and Southeast Asian backgrounds in the UK. Because of challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the UK’s hostile immigration environment, there has been great demand for our services over the past two years.

Overview of the role

As our Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of Kanlungan’s unrestricted income plan. You will cultivate new and existing funder relationships through a mix of fundraising streams including community, events, corporate, individual giving and earned income. You will take responsibility for stewarding these donors and deepening their engagement with our work. 

You will work with our Strategic Development Manager, to deliver the organisation’s fundraising strategy, exploring new income streams and proactively engaging and nurturing staff and volunteers involvement within the initiatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing a fundraising plan focused on unrestricted income– including individual giving and earned income
  • Developing and executing fundraising ideas such as community, digital and events projects- looking to maximise the net income for the charity
  • Being the key donor contact and building strong relationships with donors, supporters and corporates
  • Developing our current systems to ensure donors are thanked and tracked (stewardship)
  • Working with our Social Media and  Communications officer to create and project manage all fundraising communications. This includes but is not limited to social media, event announcements and e-newsletters
  • Managing and encouraging volunteers to fundraise for us
  • Ensuring all our fundraising activity is compliant with all relevant legislation Including GDPR compliance of all fundraising activities
  • Ensuring all our data is captured and kept up to date.
  • Budget management and reporting.

As a small team, a flexible attitude is needed from a team member as there are sometimes duties that may pop up that are not included on this list.

 Person Specification

  • Track record in a fundraising role with the ability to demonstrate success in meeting and exceeding financial fundraising targets.
  • Able to communicate clearly and engagingly in person and in writing, and able to adapt your style to meet different needs
  • Experience of research and development of funding proposals
  • Organised and able to prioritise tasks and projects
  • Proven background in working with teams of people
  • Ability to assess success of fundraising activities including cost, return and added value
  • Confident working online, including video-calling, using Microsoft Office and/or Google products effectively
  • Desirable: member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising or other evidence of continuing professional development in income generation
  • Desirable: able to speak and/or understand  Filipino and/or other East and Southeast Asian languages
  • Desirable: have experiences in BAME or migrant grassroots organisations.
